The dodge tool can be used to lighten objects and bake them seem more bright and highlight things subtlety or make it stand out. This is useful when dealing with low or minimal light situation.
The Clone stamp tool
Can be used to hide small things that you don’t want in the picture or ad more of something you want in a picture
Crop tool
Cropping is extremely important for making images as you can scale the image and cut out.
Spot healing brush
unfortunately i cant show this in action but this too hides blemishes by using the surrounding area to clone over it. it is similar to the clone tool but it uses a variety of sources to fill the space.the spot healing brush
Magic wand tool
This tool can select the specific shade of an object depending on the sensitivity set this can be useful for changing select objects or independent items i have foun this very good for selecting things where i have made the item from multiple items
if you did this right you should get this format this is the raw image editing format this can only be reached by directly assessing the raw file
Step 2 changing the temperature and tint
his changes the overall colour of the photo and can mix the tint and temperature this is how you change the overall
Step 3 you can change the contrast and exposure
This will change the level of sensitivity to light so if you want to correct the photo or blow it out this is a feature that is auto done bu the camera but if you want a custom
Step 4 highlights and shadows
this will change the shadows and and level of definition between light levels this is a very important if you have had a problem with any of the functions on the camera
step 5 clarity and haze
this will change how developed the photo haze will make it over exposed or underexposed and clarity will change how much definition is on the features
Step 6 vibrancy and saturation
vibrance will change how bright the colours are similarly saturation will also effect the colours in a different way this will work with the tint and temperature so don’t make changes before
Step 7 tools 1
these will allow you to edit with tools more precisely and select specific colours this is important because for more detailed work requires the more specific tool
Step 8 tools 2
these tools allow you to make small changes crop and hide blemishes or mistakes this function is most commonly used trying to get rid of circumstantial things in the background or on the face
Step 9 Photoshop
This can be done to non raw files so many of the functions are similar to previous but have been developed further to fit vector and bitmap images this will not work on smart images so you have to decide whether to rasterise or make the image vector.
Step 10 Photoshop 2
These tools can be used for typing making shapes and erasing these are useful because of their individual uses that can change in different circumstances like the dodge tool the tools have a range of uses most of the tools don’t require it to be rasterised or vector but some make smart objects which cannot be changed after rasterising
Photographers like Ansel Adams use refection to make summitry depth of field a deep depth of field. Everything is in frame a shallow depth shows a single object wide aperture low F-stop to have everything in frame
Repetition
using several objects to make the photo ascetically pleasing
Symmetry
making things ascetically pleasing by making it look the same when cut in half
Shapes
also using shapes to make the focus look pleasing
Leading lines
Lines that point toward the focus of the photo
Candid or street Photography
Photography that is unexpected or unplanned usual urban this can lead to problems but is usually good
The law
Legally you cannot show private places or harass private public and it is not legal to become a public obstruction Be prepared to explain yourself respect personal privacy use common scence
be culturally confident
stand on public property
do not approach from behind
be polite calm confident
if you see a no say no worries and go
Concert photography
Its all about being creative with your environment
Use a low aperture allows for the most light to be let in
Fast shutter speed to capture the precise moment
Get the most possible light and fastest shot to be able to get a good photograph
Use a shutter speed of 1 over 200 or faster use a high ISO the higher the ISO the more noise you encounter but it is lighter 3600-6400 is ideal
Spot metering this takes a light reading this is useful to use when a artist is in a spotlight as the camera sets the contrast itself if you don’t want the artist in the centre of the frame if you set the camera to single shooting and focusing hold down the shutter button half way and move the camera to get the desired image this will only happen if the shutter button is half way if its all the way it will continue to focus on the centre image
Multiple shot/burst mode you will need to have a big sd card to do this but it is the most effective way to take pictures at a concert
No flash its not used at concerts as t is not effective
Always shoot in raw so the camera does not process it as the camera wont change the white balance
Product photography
Different types of product photography
Working with different textures and brands
Fashion photography
Similar to product photography but it is more creative using elaborate sets has more creative freedom
Long exposure photography
Where alot of light comes in becausee the apeture is open a long time this creates a merged image where all frames of movement are put into one frame this could create blur
Light painting photography
Photography comes from the greek meaning drawing of light
Light painting can only happen that pitch black so try to limit noise
Direct sunlight photography
Using the light behind the subject the idea is to enhance the background but the extremities must be visible this is enhanced by changing the line of gravitation
Powder play
Somewhere between fast and slow shutter to enhance movement
Underwater photography
Means you will lack reds or green because of refection
Water bounces the light in different directions
Arial photography
Anything 90%from the floor and parallel to the horizon
You will have to ask what you can take a pictures of
Ansel Adams uses nature and the environment so we took a picture of trees and leaves we did this at Fareham because it was easier
Greg Crewdson
Gregory Crewdson uses abstract scenes that have been stages and well lit so we edited the photo to make it look staged so we took it in a staged environment and put a background in
don mccullen
he uses depictions of war and poverty to depict what is wrong with current scociety so we used a war memorial
Mario Testino
made portraiture for famous stylists so we used a standard portrait using three point lighting
David Bailey
he took portraits in the 60’s so we took a close up portrait in the studio because he was a person who took advantage of the developing technology
Vivian Mayer
Vivian took pictures on busy streets so we used the high street
David la Chapelle
he uses disorienting and complex backgrounds so we edited a portrait
Shutter Speed
we put the camera on bulb and made tracings with a phone torch
Aperture
we used a small aperture to get an even depth of field and changed the iso and shutter speed accordingly to make it light enough to see but not too blurry
White balance
we made this picture colder to make it seem different
Recreate times
this is a recreation of a times 100 most influential photos so we used a bridge and a fast shutter speed to capture a road
Best photo
this just happened when a dog tried to bite a balloon
This is a picture of a Buddhist monk protesting the treatment of the monks in Vietnam. Photographer Malcome Brown shows Thic Quang Duc immolating himself on Saigon street on the 11th of June 1963. The monk became a martyr for monks he is the reason president Kennedy did not to interfere with the uprising and subsequent coup of president Diem, who oppressed the monks as he was part of the 10 percent of the Catholics in Vietnam. This mans heart was recovered from his body and put in a glass chalice and his body re-cremated. despite the pain he remained silent. He was also the Chairman of the Panel on Ceremonial Rites of the Congregation of Vietnamese Monks. The photo was one of many capturing the event Malcolm took several including the start and the end.
the picture is divided by lighting as the monk is dark and covered by smoke on one side and clearly visible. This contrast emphasised the duality of the act even if its unconsciously the faces are clearly visible showing everything from shock, awe, to thanks, as their were possibly many monks who knew what was happening and its meaning. He is a true martyr for Vietnam as he has willingly given his life to make a statement
The photo was taken at a time of day that show the shadows flow with the smoke, to emphasise with the message of the photo. The effect of the photo is to emphasised though the framing of the car. his car that he just got out of and got the gasoline and used to immolate himself. The other framing device is the fire itself showing the emphasis onto the monk.
The event was only ever captured by Malcomes photos, this is because there was a majority Buddhists occupation who had restricted access to imported luxuries, even without their devotions. The negative has no light within the fire so it makes a dark effect. The image depicts half the face covered in fire. The timing of the picture makes it better especially because of the context behind the photo.
He changed the entire U.S’s mind about the leader of Vietnam. He effected the world by ending his life, the act was the ultimate sacrifice, because of his sacrifice their was a new leader. John F Kennedy said that no other picture has stirred up such emotion. he stopped the raids on Buddhist pagodas and brought the US to help assassinate the leader of Vietnam. The monk also led other monks to follow his example to convince the public to help their people.
this was one of the first acts to stop Buddhist oppression by Catholics. The acts of this man changed the country for years to come. It is one of the most substantial events in history and shows you don’t have to start a war to win a battle. He is amongst the many Buddhist icons who have won a peaceful fight. He single-handedly stopped and started the coup
Genres refer to a category within a media text, this might be multiple or none
Questions you are able to ask
What genre is this? ,how do i know this? ,what does this con-notate?, is this pushing boundaries?
Donnie Darko
Genre:horror thriller
This is because the scenery is dark and doesn’t have bright colours.
Target audience: teenagers
The colours are dark or blue con-notating sadness and misery. From context the film may be scary or confusing. The narrative is hard to analyse because of the nature of the film. A narrative does not have to be linear.
Gregory Crewsons photos
are often disturbing using fog
the narrative of the picture shows like an early morning of a stopped car in the middle of the road at amber lights
Representation
How is this media presented by the media? The news uses only pictures that are only positive to their presentation and only reinforces their views
In the song “Blurred lines” their are many sexist themes but this was a selling strategy
Micro elements semiotics
derives from the study of language, semiotcs: Study of symbols and signs physical, auditory or implied
A physical sign is a icon and a implied sign is an index
Different photos can mean different things like a boxer standing over an opponent can mean victory or a fight well fought
Micro elements mise en scene
In french it means to put things in the scene, so why each object is placed where it is
Micro elements lighting: each scene has different lighting and character specific colours
this is where the photographer uses objects around them to make the photo look more professional by including and excluding key items and assets the e practice can be used to develop a persons work and further their ability a good way to frame something is to take a picture through another thing most lightly a gate or a rock formation
abelmann,s.black and white house
Lighting
Lighting is important as it can be essential to highlight the focus of the photo and using low and high key lighting a photographer can make the same photo look different to help con-notate themes and genres
ramone,r.cat
Focus
The focus is key to highlighting different themes and key figures in the photo as well as taking things out of the viewers perspective to make it more real and focus on the central theme

Shutter speed allows you to take faster photos it is able to capture faster shots without blur this is needed for action shots but there are exceptions
Low shutter speed
High shutter speed
Aperture is expressed in f stops a larger number is a smaller aperture and has more depth of field but smaller apertures cause diffraction large apertures let more light in
Small aperture
Large aperture
White balance is measured in kelvin lower then 300 thousand is blue higher than 650 is reddish
Cold white balance
Even white balance
Warm white balance
ISO is used to manipulate aperture and shutter speed increasing iso allows you to slow down shutter speed
